This quilt started out to be a baby quilt, but it is perfect as a smaller wall hanging. I fused and machine appliqued the birds, and machine quilted it with a small stipple. It is so cute, if I do say so myself.

I have been thinking of adopting another cat for some time. Craig has been trying to talk me out of it, but he didn't succeed. Yesterday I adopted a beautiful male gray tabby kitten from a lovely woman who fosters cats. He is the most well adjusted kitten I have ever seen - it is like he has always lived here. He loves the dogs, he is litter box trained, plays with his toys and sleeps in his new kitty bed. He shows no anxiety or shyness at all. We are having a bit of a problem with Moby, our 8 year old male cat; we are introducing them slowly. Moby is an indoor/ outdoor cat, so he is is expressing his displeasure by staying out more than usual. But I am planning on keeping new kitty indoors only, so at least Moby won't have to share the great outdoors with him.
We are now working on naming the little sweetie. He came to us with the name of Scooby, which is weird, because our male chocolate lab Buddy was named Scooby Doo by the Vet who rescued him and my daughter had a dog in Madagascar whom she named Scooby. So part of me thinks we should keep the name Scooby. But so far we have come up with Henry (after my father), Pippin, and Wiggs (after Craig's father). Seeing it's Father's Day tomorrow maybe we should go with one of our Father's names. Anyway, What's-His-Name is the cutest thing, and has provided us with so much entertainment already. I even found Craig (who didn't want another cat) napping yesterday with kitty asleep on his chest. I think he has won him over! Now we just have to work on Moby. I made this sunflower quilt using Sharon Schamber's piec-lique techinique. It was time consuming but you can achieve perfect curved piecing. I am probably crazy to put it on my front porch after all the work I put into it, but it is the perfect place.
I finished my bird quilt and sent it off to Leigh and Ann in Oregon. It is a house warming present. I haven't seen their new house yet but hopefully we will get to visit.
Craig and I were fortunate to have spent last weekend at Sunset Beach. Our good friend Margie invited us plus our dogs to her beautiful beach house. Sunset Beach is a small barrier island in southeastern NC that encompasses 3 miles of beautiful coastline. It is such a nice quiet, family beach. Connected to Sunset Beach is Bird Island Coastal Reserve, a 1300 acre natural state preserve, which is definitely worth the 2 mile walk.
What also makes this island so charming is the one lane pontoon bridge you drive over to get on the island. It is one of last pontoon bridges in North Carolina, it is an old wooden, one lane bridge that open every hour to boat traffic on the intercoastal waterway. Sometimes it is a bit of wait to get on or off the island, but it is well worth it. The state is in the process of building a high rise bridge to replace this delightful older bridge. I hate to see it go, it is part of the charm of this lovely Island. Thank you, Margie, for sharing your little piece of heaven. We are thankful to have such a good friend. |
