Craig and I were fortunate to have spent last weekend at Sunset Beach. Our good friend Margie invited us plus our dogs to her beautiful beach house. Sunset Beach is a small barrier island in southeastern NC that encompasses 3 miles of beautiful coastline. It is such a nice quiet, family beach. Connected to Sunset Beach is Bird Island Coastal Reserve, a 1300 acre natural state preserve, which is definitely worth the 2 mile walk.
What also makes this island so charming is the one lane pontoon bridge you drive over to get on the island. It is one of last pontoon bridges in North Carolina, it is an old wooden, one lane bridge that open every hour to boat traffic on the intercoastal waterway. Sometimes it is a bit of wait to get on or off the island, but it is well worth it. The state is in the process of building a high rise bridge to replace this delightful older bridge. I hate to see it go, it is part of the charm of this lovely Island. Thank you, Margie, for sharing your little piece of heaven. We are thankful to have such a good friend.

I'm a little slow at looking at your blog (I've been meaning to since we returned from SSB). I love your pics! And you are always welcome to visit me - you're just like family and so easy to have around. I think Millie missed all of you when you left! Margie
