A client brought this beautiful old Irish Chain quilt to me to make into stuffed dogs. From the look of the fabric I think the quilt might have been made in the 1940s - 50s. The quilt was repaired by my client's mother. The pink fabric was replaced, the green, while faded was in pretty good shape, and the muslin was threadbare in places. While I felt bad cutting this up, I do love to re-purpose things. I think they turned out so cute! We are just back from a great trip to Asheville, which included lots of great hiking, food and relaxing. Craig gave two wonderful talks at the Mother Earth News FAIR.
I am always searching for nice extra-wide quilt backing. I just finished these two t-shirt quilts. I love the gray backing fabrics - they look great paired with red or purple.I am so happy to be back in my sweat shop. It has been 5 weeks since my shoulder surgery and I have missed my quilting therapy. I still have months of physical therapy ahead to strengthen my shoulder muscles, but am able to work again.
The past few months have been such a series of ups and downs that my head is spinning.
I think the downs are winning as I have lost both my sister and brother within months of each other. I am having trouble just writting this here, as it makes it seem more real and I don't want it to be real...... As for the ups, Craig and I had a wonderful trip to Seattle to visit Sara, Adam and our grandsons Aiden and Aaron. Craig also gave two wonderful talks at the Northwest Flower and Garden Show. Being with Sara and the boys was so good for my heart. Just to get hugs from her two sweet boys has to be the best medicine ever! Another up is Merry, our canine guest for two months. She is my is my sister's beautiful golden retriever. Merry and I have a special bond. It's not every dog that I let curl up on the couch with me. The cats are not happy as she is obsessed with them (the feeling is NOT mutual), but they will survive. Last week I had surgery to repair a torn labrum in my shoulder. It was an old injury and I have put off surgery for many years. I am now recovering nicely and looking forward to starting rehab and getting back to quilting. Although the downs are still fresh, I am so blessed and have so much to be grateful for! Thank you. I just finished this memory quilt made from men's shirts, pants ,t-shirts, neckties and bathing suits.
It is always a challenge to make a quilt that is pretty (in my opinion) from men's clothes; let's face it... male clothing can be a little drab. This is one of my favorites. It just has good karma and a cozy look and feel. I had enough clothing left over to make two teddy bears for twin girls as memories of their Dad. Over the past years making t-shirt and memory quilts for people, I have come across sayings or logos that make me smile or bring a tear to my eye. Here are some of my favorites - some "words to live by". Happy New Year to all!
The past few months have been busy for me. I have made several t-shirt and memory quilts for Christmas gifts as well as memory Santas and Teddy Bears (these were made from military uniforms). It was a pleasure, as well as therapy, for me to stay creative as I had just lost my sister, and the grief was and is overwhelming. Thank you to my clients who were all a pleasure to work with. More pictures to come. Merry Christmas |
