Summer work

It has been a very hot and muggy summer here in North Carolina...not so great for the garden but pretty good for quilting.

I just finished this custom t-shirt quilt for a soldier stationed in Texas. Some quilts just make themselves. This was one of them - a pleasure to work on.

I was also asked by a lovely older lady to finish some work that was started by her grandmother and mother in the 1940s.  She had a bag full of pieces for a double wedding ring quilt; the rings were sewn together by hand with the tiniest 1/8th of a seam. The fabrics were in pretty good shape,  with just a little thinning and staining. I was able to sew them together to make a throw-size quilt.

She also gave me a bag-full of crocheted squares. I think it was a popcorn pattern made with thin, off white cotton floss.
The squares were beautifully crocheted by her mother about 80 years ago. I sewed them together to make this lovely bed runner.
