I have just finished quilting for this year. Here is my last, and in my opinion the best, of my "Patrice" series. I also made these two quilts for clients. One is made from really cool beer and liquor t shirts and one is made from rugby shirts. Last but not least here are my Santas on their way to the NC Craft Gallery. Merry Christmas!

I am always on the lookout for new ideas for memory quilts made from men's neckties. My friend Tamah made a nice crazy patch pillow from her brother-in-law's ties. There are so many great ideas out there.
Here is one of my favorites. I recently machine quilted two beautiful quilts for my fellow Bee members Ann and Carolyn. Carolyn's quilt is named Big Pink and is for her niece. Ann's quilt was part of a mystery quilt that some our our Bee members made for Quilts of Valor. Ann's quilt is going to her grandson, who is a history buff. Both quilts were a pleasure to quilt even though they were queen size. I am finding that if I relax and pace myself, queen size isn't to difficult to maneuver with my Juki sewing machine.
I also completed several t-shirt/memory quilts over the past few months. The pictures can be found in my memory quilt section. I made a lot of memory/t-shirt quilts in 2013 and I have to say that this one had the most meaning for me. It is a quilt that I made for the son of a dear childhood friend. She and her son shared a love of running, skiing, the Red Sox, music and, yes, Guinness Beer. Usually it takes me awhile to get the lay out of the t-shirts right, but this quilt practically made itself. It was a pleasure to work on and I was honored that her family trusted me with their memories. Love you Patrice! I have been busy making memory and t-shirt quilts and machine quilting. I am lucky to be working at something I love.
I have also been listening to some great books on CD while I work. I just finished Native Son by Richard Wright, one of the best books I have listened to. It really gets into the mind of a young African-American man, pre-Civil Rights movement. Here are pictures of a queen size t-shirt quilt that I made for a young woman who saved all of her swim team t-shirts. I will also post more completed memory quilts in the Memory Quilt section and Machine quilting section. |
